M-change: Mis-planning?
As freeways go, the new m-change is going to be ridiculous in terms of asthetics and community design. But do you guys think the state dropped the ball in planning for future transportation needs (ie rail)?
Maybe leaving some open space for future expansion needs would have been efficient?

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
i still think throwing an extra lane in the more congested spot could help, if not now, eventually. why not up the freeway capacity? everyone knows that public transportation is continuing to deteriorate and more people seem to be dependent on their cars, myself included.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
While I think the new interchange is going to look a hell of a lot nicer than what we have now, I completely agree that the lack of future insight is mind-boggling. The outright denial of need for light rail and added space (lanes) is seriously beyond my comprehension. Millions upon millions of dollars spent on freeway recontstruction that'll be outdated before it's even complete. Sad.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
Actually, I believe that although the lanes will be striped for three in each direction, the does have an expanded right-of-way which will allow for more lanes in the future with little reconstruction. I may be wrong, but take a look next time you go through there.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
With this huuuuuuuuge project going on right now, won't it be quite some time before anything else is done with the M-change? If they have entirely and completely overlooked the possibility of light rail, in some form in the future, that is a rather large oversight in my opinion. I say this considering the recent proposal for the guided buses, or trams, or whatever the hell the Milwaukee Connector was. Missed opportunity now only costs __ x more money in the future.

Speaking of aesthetics, has anyone driven under the interchange eastbound on Clybourn? It really gets you up-close and personal with the construction, and also provides a good glimpse of what the final colors will be.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
The money should have been spent on rail instead and not expansion of the freeway system. Adding lanes never helps, it never has.. It actually increases traffic and congestion. City after city has found this but yet no one can break from the car addiction. People wouldn't be so attached to their cars if the auto industry wasn't so supported by the government.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
but they literally had to redo the freeway. by the time it was first completed it was already inadequate. it was originally built to handle approx 150,000 cars a day and its currently at over 300,000. not to mention structurally it was becoming unsafe.
However I do agree that they should have integrated a rail system. hopefully sometime in the not too distant future a city-wide system can be realized.

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
i completely agree, future growth should have been involved in this project, whether it is more lanes or light rail or an express lane. Again poor planning...

Re: M-change: Mis-planning?
I'm very ready for this project to finish up. They need to finish that westbound section towards Madison on 43 south. It's poor planning how McKinley merges onto 43. Any of you see it in the morning? It's impossible for cars coming in via McKinley enterence to get on.
