Milwaukee has a tendancy to let animals and thugs move into those senior housing towers. That's where my fear comes from. If its well run, I'll be fine with the project. It sounds like public housing is getting better in Milwaukee.

I like the Green roof idea. I wish they would put that on more new buildings.

Would you be able to share some of your experiences about this? This just seems like an outsider's ignorant statement to me...

and again, this is replacing the building that is already there and is already used by the housing authority. i wouldn't expect problems to arise just because the residents are transferred to a new building.

Jesse276 , do you recall the history of Locust Tower? A nice new housing project in the 70's meant for low income elderly and mentally ill people in Milwaukee. Slowly but surely poor management lead to drug addicts being classified as mentally ill. Pretty soon drug addicts many of whom were into crime were living at Locust tower. They essentially took of the building and victimized the elderly people who lived there. Things have been cleaned up, but it was a terrible case of urban planning.

Go easy on calling people outsiders, it sounds like you don't know recent history too well.

I do know that history, but your initial comment seemed so reactionary that it seemed as though you were just spouting off. However, you obviously can only frame public housing in one view, despite the fact that the senior public housing today is nothing like it once was.

Listen, I want this to get built. I don't think there is any disagrement here that all Milwaukeans deserve clean safe housing. I'm happy the ugly old building is going. I didn't know the specifics of the project. Now I do. Now I'm fine with it.

Sorry if I came off as an ass in any earlier posts, I just want what I think is best for the city.

Agreed, on a side note, I'm also glad the city isn't just building a new building and then leaving the rest of the site vacant. It will be interesting what gets developed on the rest of the lot. I'm hoping for a bit of retail in that project too.

Yea it was important to get that building moved to the sidewalk edge instead of that setback... Now it should be able to be developed.
