Pabst Brewery
We've all got our own impressions of the site and would love to see it as something other than a bunch of abandoned buildings. As far as I know though, none of us are multi-millionaires willing to spend cash like no tomorrow to make the old Pabst Brewery what it could and should be.
Not to worry though... that's what we have Joseph Zilber for. Click here for an interesting article outlining a few of Zilber's visions and what he hopes the site will be a few years down the road.

Re: Pabst Brewery
what do you guys think about the waterfall idea? I personally love it. I also like the idea of a rock climbing area in downtown.

Re: Pabst Brewery
I think it's kick ass, this is my favorite quote from the article:
"I dream of the things we could do here, and I'm going to make them happen," said Zilber, who spent much of the rest of the day at City Hall, talking to officials about a tax incremental financing district for the site.
-Zilder (developer)
Let's hope he asks less then the previous guys for the city TIF.

Re: Pabst Brewery
I think the city has lucked out HUGE that pabstcity failed and this guy is taking it over. He is more interested in making a difference in the community rather than the best way to make a profit.

Re: Pabst Brewery
Turner Hall has rock climbing and that's more downtown than the Pabst.

New zoning for Pabst site recommended by panel
By TOM DAYKIN

Posted: Nov. 21, 2006
Plans to redevelop the former Pabst brewery took a small step forward Monday, with city officials agreeing to rezone the property for new uses.
The Plan Commission unanimously recommended new zoning for the 21-acre site on downtown's northwestern edge.
Real estate investor Joseph Zilber, who bought the Pabst property in August, has conceptual plans to create housing, offices, a hotel and other uses. The brewery has been largely vacant since Pabst closed the facility 10 years ago.
The rezoning application, and a proposed city financing plan, will both be reviewed by the Common Council's Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee on Nov. 28. Both items require council approval.
The financing plan is likely to draw the most scrutiny.
It calls for the city to borrow $28.7 million to help transform the former brewery.
About $15 million would pay for demolishing some of the former Pabst buildings and for environmental cleanup, with an additional $11 million paying for new streets, sewers, water mains and other public improvements. The remaining funds would pay for other costs.

Re: Pabst Brewery
The Pabst site reminds me a lot of Ghirardelli Square in SanFran http://www.ghirardellisq.com anyone who has ever been there, know exactly what I mean
This could really be a HUGE draw for downtown Milwaukee, if they do it up right

It sounds like this is really going to happen. What a great development for downtown and the city. It's going to help out the area just west of the freeway also.
